On November 4, 2025, New Yorkers elected Democratic state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani as the city’s 111th mayor, succeeding Eric Adams. Mamdani defeated Republican activist Curtis Sliwa and independent former governor Andrew Cuomo with a campaign centered on affordability, equity, and progressive reform.
The election drew more than 2 million voters, marking the highest turnout in a New York City mayoral race in over 50 years. Mamdani made history as the first South Asian and first Muslim mayor of New York, as well as the youngest to hold the office in over a century..🀰
